Luigi Halloween CostumeIf you’re feeling rather low on ideas or just do not have much time to put together a fancy costume, why not choose to go for a Luigi Halloween Costume?  Aside from one particular item, the costume is made of items easily found in department stores.

Before we get too far though, there may be some among you readers who are not familiar with Luigi.  Luigi is one-half of the famous video game character duo Mario and Luigi.  They are brothers according to official lore – twins in fact, with Luigi apparently being the younger of the two by only a little bit.  This dynamic duo have no family names, but video game characters do not really need to.

Luigi came into the franchise after Mario.  Originally designed as a palette swap image for Mario, the “alternate” Mario eventually became a distinct character with his own personality.  Eventually, the differentiation became stronger, with Luigi becoming physically distinct from Mario.  Whereas Mario was a shorter, more portly guy, Luigi was taller and slimmer.  Both sport bushy, upturned mustaches and have accents roughly equivalent to the borough of Brooklyn in New York.  They are of Italian descent, as much as that is possible in a video game world filled with mushrooms and tubes.

What makes a Luigi Halloween Costume special?  Well, Mario is widely considered the most popular video game character ever, having appeared in the most games and having continuously been in the scene for decades – a rare feat in the ever-shifting video game scene.  Luigi is the perennial sidekick, who is less courageous and has to be content playing second key, yet can rise up to the occasion when needed.  In other words, he has to stay behind Mario most of the time, yet he is capable of great feats himself, and he never complains about his “lower” position.

By putting on a Luigi Halloween Costume, you can celebrate the status of sidekicks all over the world.  They are the ones behind the scenes, ready to lend a hand, yet never feeling angry or sad about being in second place.  It is almost a celebration of both courage and humility.  Of course, there is always the visual value of dressing up as one of the most widely-known video game characters of all time.

What does a Luigi Halloween Costume look like exactly?  Well, the costume is strongly reliant on the back story of the character.  Both Mario and Luigi are plumbers, and as such they wear jumpers, long-sleeved shirts, and at times gloves.  They also don plush hats with either “M” or “L” silk-screened onto each.

Due to the limitations of the graphics capabilities of earlier video game consoles, the original character sprites had very simple features.  That means that they had blocks of color rather than clearly-defined appearances.  This appearance was considered integral and so newer, more refined incarnations of the characters retain the smooth, simple appearance of the original characters.

Luigi’s jumper is a matte denim affair with no pockets and only basic seam lines.  There are two large yellow fasteners, one at the end of each strap in front.  His long-sleeved shirt is lime green, as is his hat.  Speaking of which, his hat is silk-screened with a circle on the front-center, with a green letter “L”.  This plush hat will probably be the most difficult costume component to source or approximate, unless you buy from specialty costumiers.  Of course, you have to get a bushy, jaunty mustache – indispensable and iconic.

If you want to go for the deluxe complete look, you might want to get a dark brown wig with feelers – often mistaken for sideburns.  Add a pair of white gloves, and you are good to go!

A Luigi Halloween Costume is easy to throw together, and will be comfortable for a long time.  You also won’t have to worry about feeling cold!  Celebrate sidekick-hood and remember that there will always be opportunities for you to shine! Learn more about the Luigi Costume today!
